Zone Conferences

We are starting to accept the fact that every week is going to be busy and full. This week, besides our work in the Office, we attended a Family Home Evening, took a sister to the hospital, accompanied an Elder to the Physical Therapist, Medical exam for Lynette's visa and Zone conferences.  We went to a Family Home Evening with the same family that we were able to teach last week. The amazing thing is that they have been members for just 3 weeks and they gave the lesson on Lehi's dream. It was thoughtful and insightful. It was obvious that they had spent some time preparing the lesson. We also played a game of white magic. Lynette finally learned the trick. Today (Sunday) I took a little nap when I woke up I told Lynette we should go see the Perez family. She said she had the same feeling. They live very close so we walked over. When we got there we found out that they all had "Pink Eye" (conjunctivitis). They didn't have resources to buy the medicine they

Hold On!

Have I said that mission life is busy? wow! This week was crazy! Really everyday was out of the routine. We were able to experience the other side of transfer week. This week the mission sent home 22 missionaries and received only 6. ( 2 of those missionaries are from the Dominican Republic and are waiting for their visas to go to Brazil) The logistics can be very difficult. Some areas needed to be combined and a couple of houses will need to be closed. The four missionaries that will stay in our mission are going to be great. 2 are from the US one is from DR and one is from Brazil. I can't even imagine what the missionaries are feeling this week. Tuesday was transfer day. Monday we were given the assignment to pick up 2 Elders at the airport. We were told that one was coming in at 7 pm and one at 11 pm. At 3 Hermana decided to check the incoming schedule to get exact times. She found out that the Elder we thought was coming in at 7 was actually coming in at 3:30. We jumped in ou

More Training

Yep! we're still here. And Yep! we still love it and we are still being trained. The mission is going through a major transition in a couple of different ways.  Hermana Borup and I are training as the Financial Secretary (Me) and the Executive Secretary (Lynette) and at the same time there is another Senior Missionary couple, the Buhlers that are being trained as Housing Secretary (Elder Buhler) and Records Secretary (Hermana Buhler). This means that instead of 6 young missionaries working in the office (4 Secretaries and 2 Assistants to the president) there will be 2 couples and the Assistants.  This represents a major shift in the culture of the office. The mission president hopes that this will create some stability for the incoming mission president. The new mission president arrives July 1. This change will ease some of the burden of the other transition. The number of young missionaries are decreasing over the next few months. For example this week 22 missionaries are going

Welcome to the República Dominicana

We intend to post a blog about one time per week (We think Sundays might work best). But as you can see we have already missed our first week. The first thing we have learned as new missionaries is that life is BUSY. In this blog we hope to just get you all up to speed. After spending a week in the MTC learning how the mission office runs, on Thursday night May 25th we said goodbye to our family. That made us rethink this whole thing. Six months ago it was relatively easy to say we will go on a mission but saying goodbye made it all very real. I can say that the hardest thing so far is being away from family. So far google hangouts has been our best friend. We arrived in Santo Domingo at 12:30 in the morning, Saturday. President and Sister Nuckols were there to pick us up. By the time we went through customs and got back to their home (The Mission Home) it was 2:00 am. Our first day in the Dominican Republic (DR) was mostly trying to get our feet under us a little. We slept in and
