Lots of Visits

Image
With Hermana Borup back in the country, everything is a little more normal. Our week was filled with visiting with the local missionaries. Some because they have areas that are hard for them to get to and part because they wanted us to meet investigators and less active members and help them follow up. One of those areas was Villa de Corazon de Jesus. We held a meeting there last week and now the Hermanas are following up. Hermana drove them out to the area and helped the hermanas teach. For the past several weeks there has been 3 Hermanas serving in one of the Branches. This week a new sister came from Mexico. She was there waiting for her visa to come current. She speaks Spanish because she is from Mexico but she has a hard time with Dominican. Her companion is from Panama and will be going home in 3 weeks. She said the new Hermana was having a hard time understanding many of their investigators. we held another district meeting here for another district in our zone. Some fo the

She's Home!

She's home that is if you mean "home is where your heart is". This had been a long couple weeks. I have been trying to keep myself busy but it was still long. On the bright side there is always missionary work to do and since missionary work is fun it has been a fun week. There is nothing more fun than looking someone in the eyes and let them know that there is a loving Heavenly Father who a plan so that they can return to live with him.  Without taking tons of time I will mention a few of the highlights from the week. 1) I did some contacting with some Elders we visited 4 houses we taught 3 Restoration discussions. 2) One of those discussions was on the street in front of a little store where they sell lottery tickets. The woman that works there is very interested and we taught her more about the Book of Mormon when we returned later in the week 3) IN the same area we taught a less active sister that hasn't been to Church in 10 years. "It's just e

Missing Hermana

I have to say this is the toughest time of our mission so far. Hermana Borup went home on Monday to be with McKenzie when she gives light ( a Spanish term)  to her firstborn. We have been apart before but who knew our longest separation would happen on our mission. We both felt like it was the right thing for her to do and felt like I should stay here and keep up our end of the bargain. So, of course, I am working twice as hard. Before Hermana Borup left for Utah on Monday we visited a local market that is only open on Mondays. We think that it must travel from city to city. Most of the vendors sold clothes from very large bundles about the size of a man. You know those clothes you all donated for Haiti they found their way to the Markets of the Dominican Republic. Somewhere along the line, these vendors got a hold of these bundles of clothes (probably bought them) and now they unpack them and sell them in the markets here. I imagine the same thing goes on on the Haiti side of the is

Transfers and contacting

If you have or have had a missionary in your family you know they live from transfer to transfer (6 weeks). It is how missionaries mark their time. For us, they come very fast. After all, we just had one 6 weeks ago.  They are a time of stress for everyone. There is an amazing amount of coordination that has to take place, lots of trips to the airport, It's a good time to get mail out and there always seems to be more. This time there was a number of missionaries that needed to go home early some for medical reasons some for lack of obedience, some were both. It's a very stressful time for a mission president. He knows how hard it is for missionaries when they go home early for any reason. You could see his heartbreak fo reach missionary.  Most of our week was filled with helping out during transfers. We also got to do some missionary work in Azua and around about. Hermana Borup and I decided that we could be more of an influence if we are more visible, so we are walk when we
