Sometimes plans just don't work

Image
Sorry we don't have a lot of pictures this week. I guess we were just too busy. Also this is my big week for work in the office. Rent, Electric and Cell phone are all due this week. That sounds easy but there are over 80 phones and about 70 houses and electric bills. For someone who doesn't even pay the bills at home this is a big task. This is great work, even though we are do temporal work we feel like we are part of something really big. So here are some of the highlights from the week. Remember how last week I told you that we found a great beach by the airport and that we are going to volunteer to take anyone to the airport that needs to go? The plan was working perfectly. Elder Salcedo an assistant that was in the group that went home last week stayed an extra week to help the newer assistants with the transfer. He was due to leave on Tuesday morning and needed to be at the airport at 10 am. The other couple said they were planning on taking him since they have not take

This week the mission had another transfer. Last time we had only been here for a couple of weeks and so we still had the missionaries that were training us. Hermana Borup and I have a big part in the welcoming and the training of the new missionaries. We teach them about how their money will work and how to send and receive mail and packages as well as introducing them to the rules of the mission. Hermana Borup takes blood pressure and weight, gets clothing sizes for the temple and takes pictures of the new missionaries with their companions and the Mission President and his wife. I would like to say we were flawless in our part but I can't. I will leave it at that. Transfers are never simple here. The main group of missionaries have been in the MTC here in the Dominican Republic. We pick them up at the MTC at 6:00 am and bring them to the "Transfer Chapel". The transfer chapel is where almost everyone being transferred meets and then they are sent to their new are

Sorry for not having text. I guess I'm as good at blogging as I am at being a financial secretary. I wrote a very long and spiritual blog about how our week was more righteous than yours but somehow it got lost in cyberspace just like the rent payments I made this week. I am not dedicated enough to do it all over again. My advice is for you to enjoy the pictures and try to imagine we had the best week ever. Life with bikes

Life just seems right again. Hermana Borup and I get to get onto our bikes once in awhile. This week we did a little exploring on our p-day. We did our normal loop followed by a ride along the coast of Santo Domingo and into the Colonial Zone. It is the oldest city in the Americas. Traffic is crazy but we made it home alive.  Our week started off with a trip to Santiago. IT is about 2 hours away. A sister who is going home in 2 weeks needed to go to her school to registered for classes in person. If she did not do it this week she could not start classes until January. President asked us to take her and her companion. Hermana Rodriguez lives in Santiago and we came within a few minutes of her house. The drive took 2 hours the registration took 2 minutes. Santiago is a beautiful city that is much more calm than Santo Domingo. The high-lite of the trip was sharing the Book of Mormon with a couple of men I met. I still love the response when you ask anyone if they believe in Christ.
