I'm not sure where to start this week. When we started the week we felt like we weren't going to have much to do. It ended up being a very busy week. One of the best parts of being a missionary here in Azua is getting to know the young missionaries. They are amazing. The lead, they teach, they find, they love and they do it with a smile. This week we had a Zone activity at our house. We played some games, had bar-b-qued hamburgers and hotdogs and watched a Disney movie. The zone leaders planned it all. We just made some food. We also had transfers this week which for us meant a trip to Santo Domingo. For us, it just means a bunch of running around. Back and forth to the airport and to training meetings. This transfer was a little different though. Up until now, I have been doing some of the duties of the financial secretary. This transfer President called tow young Elders to work in the office. ONe was called as the new Financial secretary. This will be a good thing fo

Barahona and back x2

Barahona is about 1 hour South of Azua and has a population of about 140,000 people. The climate between here and there is arid but there is a lot of plantanes and other produce in the more firtle valleys.  As you get to Barahona it starts to look a like like Hawaii. Coconut trees and the ocean. I got to go there twice this week. One time was planned ahead and the other was a surprise both were great trips. The first time was to take an investigator who was born in Haiti to the Haiti embassy so he can apply for a birth certificate so he can get a marriage license so he can get married so he and his wife can get baptized. I tried to use google maps to find the embassy but it lead us to a vacant lot and a big house next to it. When we went back into town we asked a motoconcho ( a driver of a motorcycle taxi, they know where everything is ) and he pointe the direction. We finally asked another motoconcho. He was a member of the church and told us to follow him. He lead us back to th

Moving to Azua has been a stabilizing event in our lives. There is way less chaos then life in the office but there still isn't much that is routine. We still make our last minute trips to help a sick missionary or help with a housing issue but we are usually able to stick to some sort of schedule. We love meeting with the missionaries for district meetings and Zone meetings and this week we did some house inspections, which turned out to be mostly enjoyable. For the most part, missionaries know how to keep a house clean and they do a fair job, which was the case in 4 of the 5 houses we inspected. Occasionally a house gets run down and messy, no really dirty and the missionaries that move into the house don't want to clean up after the missionaries before them so they don't. In fact, usually, they just contribute to the mess. We have one of those houses in our Zone. The missionaries inherited a pigstye and they weren't willing to spend much effort cleaning up after the
