Christmas Concerts!

Image
Even though the Christmas season started here in the middle of October, this week has felt like Christmas is really getting close. It's strange to not have the physical indicators like leaf-less trees and cold weather. Our days are a little shorter but it's  something you really have to be paying attention to, to even notice. We attended two Christmas concerts this weekend. One was put on by the Caribbean Area of the Church and was a big production. Like many big productions, there was too much of one thing. This time it was the bell choris. I think they had 12 numbers. But overall it was a fun production. The other concert was put on by our Mission.  Elder Hodsun put together a choir with some string instruments and a Piano to accompany. There were a few technical difficulties but they did a great job. It was held on the Temple grounds which gave the whole very peaceful spirit. It was the first time for many of those who came to be on the Temple grounds. I sat with a f...

Yep Still here!

Yep! we're still here and I'm still writing. You would think that after so many weeks writing this blog I wouldn't have anything more to say other than, "been there done that". Like I have said in the past there is no such thing as routine. Christmas time in the office means a lot of missionary packages from home. "Oh how wonderful", you say, not if your Hermana Borup and in charge of getting those packages to the right missionary in a timely way. Do you want to see Hermana Borup mad? (trust me you don't, I've seen it once or twice), then don't take packages to the missionaries when you're supposed to. Having a mother who has sent packages to missionaries that never got them in charge of this task,  has increased the urgency of the tas...

I Might Get Fired

I'm not sure where to start but the result is that I may have accelerated how fast we are asked to leave the office. Tuesday morning I received a call from Elder Buhler (housing secretary) telling me that the Landlord is threatening to lock the Elders in Neyba into their home because he has not been paid (my job). But wait it's not that simple! The missionaries have lived in this home for several years. The landlord died about 6 months ago and we did not know it so we continued to try to pay her. We were notified a few months ago and tried to find who the new owner is. There was some dispute between the husband and the son of the deceased landlord. We finally learned that the husband was the rightful owner and he was already mad that he was not getting paid. We pay through wire transfers so we got his bank info and tried to pay. ( sorry I just realized this is way to much detail). To make a long story short Elder Buhler and I drove to Neyba (https://www.google.com.do/maps/place...
