Hurricane Maria

We survived another threat of a hurricane. Not because we are good at surviving them but because they are missing us. Maria went right through Puerto Rico and turned to the North before it got to Dominican Republic. We feel very fortunate to have missed out. We feel very bad for those who have been so devastated by Irma and Maria. Maria went directly over the home town of President Santos. He had not heard from his family until this morning. They were told by their son that everyone was OK but the whole country looks like a bomb went off. He had to drive 3 hours to get to where he had cell coverage. Although the hurricane went farther to the North than Irma we got more wind and a lot more rain this time. It didn't stop us from going into the mission office to do our work.  Speaking of work Hermana Borup reports that it was an epic week for her. It feels like life has just been accelerating these last few weeks. It is certainly never dull. This week seemed to feel extra special. Maybe it was partly because we heard that the Prophet is coming to the Dominican Republic next week and will have a special meeting with the missionaries. This has made all the missionaries (including us) very excited with anticipation. Back to our week, Most of the week was filled with visits to members and investigators with a few people that need physical assistance. One of the highlights was a lesson we had with Hermanas Duffy and Hill in a small village called Las Lomas. They started teaching a man that is 50 or 60 and a neighbor who is in her late 20's. They taught the message of the Restoration and the first vision, which always has an amazing spirit. They were both visually touched by the spirit. There's Always a Way to Serve

This week was not like any other week. Oh wait, have I said that before? There really is no such thing as routine. Hermana Borup continues to get better at her work and I continue to find ways to be creative in my failures in the office. Remember last week I spent more than 5 ours paying the electric bill? I came back to the office to see if the amount I was refunded was correct. As it turns out they were 8500 DOP (Dominican pesos = about $180 US) short on the refund. This week I returned to the electric company with Elder Buhler who speaks Spanish. After another hour and a half the manager discovered I was right. She then told us that there was nothing she could do. In other words oh well, better luck next time! Apparently she has no way of refunding the money since it wasn't the same day. I couldn't return on the same day because by the time they finished the 5 hour marathon (a little longer than my time in a marathon by the way)  the office was closed.  This week start
